'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith continues contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the nail-biting closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game ended with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles after the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative strike from outside the box, and the defender immediately hammered in the loose ball before racing off toward the home end to revel in the moment, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result completed an incredible comeback given the team had found themselves down 2-0 during the latter period. Amid the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter shouting out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory secured a next round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the woodwork and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right defensive wing after Orient changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the attacker was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," he explains. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they know how to manage and slow down a game. You can believe you're doing well and then without warning they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It demands a tough attitude and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has quickly replicated that in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford City, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without much intensity. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, performing well for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the past five games, including home and away encounters against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

This marks an incredible journey for the player from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who grew up watching his parent, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they featured on an artificial pitch and the venue ceiling was shut owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to leave United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "This turned out fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I believed I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a small coach driven by club employees, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to interact with the guys but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would mix with fans on public transport after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
